On your first day at CIAL you will do an oral interview and a written placement test, so we can assess your current level of Portuguese and place you in the right course.
Students who are beginners in Portuguese will be placed together in the same group.
At the end of each course level there is a test, covering all 4 skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking). Students with a passing grade – 75% – will progress to the following level.
All students receive a certificate at the end of their stay: either an Attendance Certificate or a Completion Certificate. The certificates state the dates of the course, the level(s) taken, the number of lessons and relate to the CEFR level chart.
CIAL also prepares and helps students enroll in the official exams of Portuguese as a Foreign Language, the CAPLE exams at the universities in Lisbon or Algarve. These exams take place in May, July and November, in 6 different levels.
CIAL students have a high success rate in the CAPLE exams.
